Raintown - Hope in Troubled Times. This was Raintown's first album, and shortly we are about to see the issue of their 2nd album. For those that do not know, Raintown are a country music duo from Glasgow, Scotland, and listening to this album, you hear a deffinate mix of Nashville and Glasgow music styles, which produces a great refreshing country sound.
The album is a good mix of songs, starting with Light Up the Fuse, which it certainly does, with a great twang intro and a deat that makes your foot tap. Ship of Fools follows along with another great beat and letting Claire's wonderful voice carry the tune through till Paul joins in, a song full of energy in their voices... Then things slow down for a well written sad reflective song, but then it is followed by a cracking love song in Just One Kiss. Falling backwards carries a similar theme, and then Love's got A Hold on You seems to start like another slow number and then bam, if you do not get up and dance to this, I will be surprised. The title track, Hope in Trouble Times is a lovely song with a keen beat and a chance to hear Paul and Claire show us the range of their voices. I Won't Dance does start with a hint of Scottish sounds, and then runs with a nice gentle song. The Road Never Ends wakes you back up again, this is a full country dance song that really displays the passion and energy Raintown has for singing the music they write. The last song on the album is titled of course, The Last Song, it's a good way to end the album, with a very gentle relaxing tune. The verdict is that this is a great album and worth listening to, and now can hardly wait for the second album. You can listen yourself and buy from their website http://www.raintownmusic.com/ |
